A Battlefield Recovered Single Decal SS M40 Helmet
Steel helmet, magnetic, rolled edge, air vents on either side, with black and white SS decal on the right side. The inside comes complete with its original nine-panel black-finished leather liner, each panel with five ventilation holes and a hole at the tip housing a black shoe string that replaces its originally issued drawstring, eight of the tip holes with a circular reinforcement on the underside, the ends of the liner originally stitched together but having separated over time. The two-piece leather chinstrap has been lost to time as well, while the steel buckles are affixed to the liner's steel frame, however, the liner has come away from the steel shell as it is missing its three pins. There is a partially obscured owner's name in white paint on the underside of the skirt at the rear. Measures 235 mm x 288 mm x 160 mm in height. Surface rust and pitting on both the exterior and interior, but traces of the original apple green painted finish remain, the SS insignia remaining relatively intact. As found. [C4]
