A Luftwaffe Tropical “Hermann Meyer” Type EM's Service Cap
This is a fine example of a Luftwaffe tropical “Hermann Meyer” type Enlisted Man’s service cap, constructed of khaki-coloured cotton fabric, consisting of a cap shell, a cardboard reinforced cotton lined visor, and a neck shield. This cap features two breather vents on each side, consisting of open-hole metal (magnetic) rivets, to allow for air circulation. The insignia towards the front of the cap consist of a tropical machine embroidered Luftwaffe cap eagle, and a tropical machine embroidered Luftwaffe wreath and tri-colour cockade. Both insignia are hand-stitched to the cap, and appear to be original to the cap. Directly below the insignia is a leather chin strap that is fastened to both sides of the cap via a tan metal (magnetic) button. The strap itself is constructed of multiple thin strips of leather, with two metal buckles for length adjustment. One side of the strap is finished with a criss-cross textured black veneer, while the other is unfinished. The neck piece is designed to protect the wearer’s neck from sunshine - it is attached to the chinstrap buttons, as well as an additional button towards the back of the cap for additional support. The crown of the interior of the cap is lined in red cotton-rayon blended fabric, and is stitched into place using tan-coloured cotton twill. It is marked “RBNr0/0250/2570” in black ink. This cap measures approximately 250 mm x 160 mm, and is in overall extremely fine condition, with nearly no significant signs of wear.
