Germany, DAK. A II Pattern German Africa Corps (Deutsches Afrikakorps) Tropical Helmet by R&M Wegener
(Deutsches Afrikakorps Troppenhelm). This is an extremely well-preserved Africa Corps tropical helmet, solidly constructed of an olive green felt exterior with interior red felt liner and magnetic metal structural reinforcement. The top of the helmet is flanked by zink shields, each measuring 36 mm (w) x 42 mm (h), with the left shield depicting a German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, and the right shield displaying the German national tri-colours of black, white, and red. A brown leather chinstrap, securely fastened at each end into the interior of the helmet on magnetic metal clips, rests upon the visor with two adjustable magnetic metal buckles. The interior of the helmet is lined with a hunter green canvas-type lining with an additional thick red felt partial liner at the top. There is a tan-coloured leather sweatband secured to the interior by cotter pins. The sweatband has an embossed stamp depicting the logo of manufacturer R&M Wegener, Blitzenrod, and a handwritten inscription reading “Verdenne Robet”. The top of the interior has a brass-framed ventilation shaft extending into the tip of the exterior. The helmet measures 256 mm (w) x 236 mm (l) x 165 mm (h). There is some soiling of the sweatband and age-related fatigue to the leather rim of the visor, but the helmet presents in an otherwise near extremely fine condition.
