Germany, Heer. A Heer M40 Steel Helmet with Camouflage Cover

(M40 Stahlhelm mit Stahlhelmüberzüge). This is an extremely well-preserved Heer M40 steel helmet, constructed of grey-painted magnetic molybdenum steel. The helmet is flanked on each side by integrated stamped air vents, as well as two rivets holding in place the interior liner, with an additional liner rivet at the reverse. The rim of the helmet is fully crimped, being rolled into the interior. The interior is fully surrounded by a silvered zink frame bearing an adjustable brown leather chinstrap. The frame also bears an eight-fingered leather liner, with each finger stamped with five holes for the accommodation of a drawstring, of which only a portion remains intact. The helmet is unmarked and measures 225 mm (w) x 273 mm (l). It is accompanied by a splinter pattern camouflage helmet cover, constructed of cotton cloth. The exterior features four stitched straps with dual loops for the optional addition of foliage. The cover is attached to the helmet by four magnetic metal hooks which attach to the crimped rim, with three of the attached to an elasticized drawstring for an adjustable fit. The interior of the cover presents plain white. It is unmarked and measures 350 mm (l) x 200 mm (h) when folded. The helmet demonstrates age-appropriate rust and loss of paint, as well we material fatigue to the leather features, while the interior of the cover is slightly soiled and bears a small tear. The set is in an overall better than very fine condition.
