A well preserved example of a third reich period Forestry Official’s visor cap. The consists of fine quality dark green wool Mützentrikot (cap tricot), with a twill weave (Körperbindung) pattern of parallel running ribs of medium width and height, showing light fuzzing indicative of having been felted. The cap features a traditional high peak crown with tightly seated and even piping running along the crown of the cap, as well as the top and bottom edges of the cap band, constructed of very dark “forest” green fabric piping. The cap band itself is constructed of matching green wool, measuring 45 mm wide, backed by cardstock that has suffered slightly through time, being wrinkled towards the rear of the cap. The insignia of the cap consist of 1) a bullion eagle, consisting of fine quality, flat, rolled, and standard round silver bullion wires in the form of an eagle with outspread wings, clutching a wreathed mobile swastika in its talons, with a dark green wool backer, 2) a fine quality hand embroidered bullion wreath with a metal cockade, consisting of flat, rolled, and standard round silver bullion wires in the form of a wreath, along with a metal cockade with a red felt core. The visor is crafted of Vulkanfiber with a molded raised ridge running along the brim. It is lacquered in glossy black on the obverse, and is coloured light brown with a criss-cross pattern on the underside, remaining firmly attached to the cap. The chin cord consists of a main cord crafted of multiple thick strands of twisted bullion cords, as well as two sliders constructed of four strands of thin twisted bullion cord, and is attached to either side of the cap via a silvered pebbled metal (non-magnetic) button. The interior of the cap is lined champagne-coloured satin that is firmly stitched into place using white twill. The crown portion of the cap also features a clear celluloid diamond that is printed with “Deutsche Wertarbeit” in golden lettering. It has cracked through time, having been fixed using modern sticky tape. Towards the edge of the cap is also a warm brown perforated leather sweatband that has separated from the cap on the front half of the cap. The cap has an interior circumference of 185 mm, and measures 260 mm x 235 mm overall. This cap is a fine quality specimen that has seen some period wear, but also a wrinkled band core from storage.
