Germany, Heer. A Gebirgsjäger EM/NCO’s M42 Tropical Overseas Cap by Felix Weissbach

(Heer Panzergrenadier Schiffchen). An extremely well-preserved Heer EM/NCO’s tropical overseas field cap, constructed of olive-grab cotton twill. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, securely held in place at the front by two pieces of stitching. The crown is flanked on each side by a ventilation hole reinforced by a brown-painted zink eyelet. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia constructed of a light-brown cotton threading overlaid by a silver-grey, BeVo-style Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. The insignia measures 70 mm (w) x 30 mm (h). Beneath the eagle is a BeVo-style, tri-colour cockade set on a light brown cotton backer, measuring 35 mm (w) x 33 mm (h). Stitched around the cockade is a meadow-green soutache, indicating Gebirgsjäger personnel. The interior features a complete red cotton liner, clearly bearing a maker’s mark of “F. WEISSBACH, GLAUCHAU”, with a model stamp of “E 42” and a size stamp of “55”. The cap measures 265 mm (l) x 125 mm (h) when folded. It presents free of evident faults and is in an extremely fine condition.
