Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Coastal Artillery EM/NCO’s Overseas Cap, by Knagge & Peltz
(Schiffchen für Männer der Küstengeschütz). A rare and very well-preserved Coastal Artillery EM/NCO’s overseas cap, constructed of field-grey wool twill. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side walls, with gentle scalloping at the front. Stitched onto the peak of the cap is an insignia consisting of a dark green rayon backer bearing a golden-yellow machine-embroidered Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. The eagle insignia measures 60 mm (w) x 25 mm (h). Underneath the eagle, the cap bears a machine-embroidered tri-colour cockade measuring 35 mm (w) x 35 mm (h), surrounded by an original golden-yellow soutache. A field-grey cotton liner fully encompasses the interior, with a black ink maker’s mark of “KNAGGE & PELTZ, MÜNCHEN” stamped onto the left side. Also clearly visible just underneath the maker’s mark is a size stamp of “56”. The cap measures approximately 280 mm (l) x 125 mm (h) when folded flat. Sporadic patches of material fatigue are evident to the exterior wool, including a small hole just above the eagle, and another to the right side near the reverse. The cap is in an overall better than very fine condition.
