Germany, Luftwaffe. A 1st Fallschirm-Panzer Division Hermann Göring EM/NCO’s M43 Field Cap
(Luftwaffe Einheitsfeldmütze M43 für Männer der Fallschirm-Panzer-Division 1. Hermann Göring). An extremely well-preserved 1st Fallschirm-Panzer Division Hermann Göring EM/NCO’s M43 field cap, constructed of smooth black wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped at the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place with a single pebbled and grey-painted magnetic metal button which emanates from the right side of the right flap and meets a reinforced buttonhole on the left flap. The crown is flanked on each side by a ventilation hole reinforced with a magnetic metal grommet. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a black wool base bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 76 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). The eagle notably retains its factory-original zig-zag stitching. Directly below, the cap also bears a machine-embroidered tri-colour cockade measuring 22 mm in diameter. Completing the exterior features is a protruding visor with a card stock core, fully lined in identical black wool. The interior features a dark grey leather sweatband securely stitched in place across the forehead, and is encompassed by a multi-piece slate-grey rayon liner. Stamped onto the crown is a black ink size mark of “55”. The cap measures approximately 190 mm (w) x 220 mm (l) x 135 mm (h). With no evident wear or damage, this scarce M43 cap is in an overall extremely fine condition.
