Germany, Luftwaffe. A Flak/Artillery EM/NCO’s Visor Cap
(Luftwaffe Schirmmütze für Männer der Flak/Artillerie). A very well-preserved Luftwaffe Flak/Artillerie EM/NCO’s visor cap, constructed of dark grey wool. It features reinforced side walls, fully lined on the exterior with a woven black mohair cap band. The former is trimmed along both the top and bottom edges with red wool piping, with an additional band of identical piping fully surrounding the crown. Pinned onto the peak of the cap is an aluminum insignia consisting of a Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika. Measuring 70 mm (w) x 40 mm (h), the eagle retains both of its reverse attachment prongs. Pinned onto the centre of the cap band just underneath the eagle is a second aluminum insignia consisting of a wreathed tricolour cockade, flanked on each side by stylized wings. The former measures 130 mm (w) x 40 mm (h) overall. Blackened magnetic metal rivets flank each side of the cap band and secure in place a black leather chinstrap, adjusted with dual functional magnetic metal buckles. When not in use, the chinstrap rests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor, which is finished in a matte black on the obverse. The interior features a 40 mm-wide field-grey leather sweatband, while a grey rayon liner encompasses the crown. The cap is unmarked and measures approximately 245 mm (w) x 255 mm (l) x 175 mm (h). Issues consistent with age and field use are evident, and include some material fatigue to the wool, deterioration of the visor, soiling of the interior liner, and the loss of a moisture guard formerly stitched onto the interior crown. The cap is in an overall better than very fine condition.
