(Luftwaffe Schirmmütze). A very well-preserved Luftwaffe Flight Personnel EM/NCO’s visor cap, constructed of dark grey whipcord wool. It features reinforced side walls, lined on the exterior with a ribbed black mohair cap band. The former is trimmed along both the top and bottom edges with golden-yellow wool piping, with an additional band of identical piping fully surrounding the crown. Pinned onto the peak of the cap is an aluminum insignia consisting of a Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika. Measuring 65 mm (w) x 40 mm (h), the insignia is secured in place with both original reverse attachment prongs. Pinned onto the centre of the cap band just underneath the eagle is a second aluminum insignia consisting of a central wreathed tricolour cockade, flanked on each side by stylized wings. It measures 120 mm (w) x 40 mm (h) overall. The cap band is also flanked on each side by a blackened magnetic metal rivet, securing in place a black leather chinstrap, adjusted with dual functional magnetic metal buckles. When not in use, it rests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor, finished in a matte black on the obverse.
The interior features a 45 mm-wide brown leather sweatband, securely held in place by a row of machine stitching and perforated with an array of ventilation holes near the forehead. A light brown oilcloth liner encompasses the interior, and retains a transparent plastic moisture guard on the crown. Underneath the crown is an intact gilt mark of “LANDES-LIEF. GEN.” (LAGO), indicating manufacture by a licensed maker from a Berlin-based collective. It is also stamped with a black ink size mark of “53 ½”. The cap measures approximately 250 mm (w) x 260 mm (l) x 155 mm (h). Minor, age-appropriate material fatigue is evident to the wool and leather elements, but the cap is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
