Germany, Luftwaffe. A Luftwaffe EM/NCO’s Overseas Cap, c.1943
(Luftwaffe Fliegermütze). This is an extremely well-preserved Luftwaffe EM/NCO’s overseas cap, constructed of dark grey wool with fold down side and back panels with gently sloping, downward scallops to the front. The peak of the cap features a second-pattern, Luftwaffe-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, constructed of machine-embroidered silver thread on a dark grey wool backer, measuring 70 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). Stitched underneath the eagle is a Luftwaffe-style tri-colour cockade, constructed of machine-embroidered thread on dark grey wool backer, measuring 20 mm in diameter. The interior features a complete dark-grey wool twill lining stamped with a date of “1943” and size “58 ½” in black ink. The cap is unmarked, measures 290 mm (l) x 124 mm (h), and presents in a near mint condition.
