Germany, Luftwaffe. An Airfield Fire Service EM/NCO’s Converted Visor Cap

(Luftwaffe Schirmmütze für Männer der Fliegerhorstfeuerwehr). A well-preserved and scarce Luftwaffe Fliegerhorstfeuerwehr (Air Field Fire Service) visor cap, converted from previous Feuerschutzpolizei use. It is constructed of dark navy blue wool with reinforced side walls, fully lined on the exterior with a black doeskin cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the cap band are trimmed with carmine piping, while an additional band of identical pipings trims the outer edge of the crown. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of an aluminum Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 65 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). Directly below the eagle, the centra of the cap band is pinned with an additional aluminum insignia consisting of a central wreathed tri-colour cockade flanked by stylized wings, measuring 130 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). The cap band is flanked by blackened magnetic metal rivets which secured in place a black leather chinstrap, which is adjusted with dual functional magnetic metal buckles. The chinstrap rests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor which is finished in a glossed black on the obverse and in a matte brown on the reverse. The interior of the side walls is surrounded by a brown leatherette sweatband, while the structure is fully encompassed by a light brown rayon liner. An intact transparent plastic moisture guard is stitched onto the crown, and features a hollow slot for the insertion of a nametag Unmarked, the cap measures approximately 24 cm (w) x 23 cm (l) x 15.5 cm (h). Minor material fatigue is visible to the wool, including some holes consistent with the removal of the cap’s former Feuerschutzpolizei insignia, with additional wear of the leather features. It remains in a very fine condition. Very scarce visor cap.
