Germany, Luftwaffe. An Officer’s Converted Overseas Cap
(Luftwaffe Schiffchen). An extremely well-preserved Luftwaffe Officer’s overseas cap, constructed of dark grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded with fold-down side panels, trimmed along the circumference with a band of silver aluminum wire piping added post-manufacture when the owner evidently received a promotion. The peak bears an insignia in the form of a dark grey wool backer overlaid by a machine-embroidered silver-grey Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika. The eagle insignia measures 70 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). Underneath the eagle is a tricolour cockade constructed of multi-coloured machine embroidery and measuring 22 mm in diameter. The interior features a complete olive-drab rayon-blended liner, bearing the remnants of a black ink size stamp which has since been rendered illegible. It is otherwise unmarked and measures 275 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). Minor soiling is evident, but the cap is in an overall extremely fine condition.
