Germany, Luftwaffe. An Officer’s Overseas Cap
(Luftwaffe Schiffchen für Offizier). An extremely well-preserved Luftwaffe Officer’s overseas cap, constructed of dark grey whipcord wool. It is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels which are gently scalloped at the front. The edge of the paneling is trimmed with a length of twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire piping. Stitched onto the peak of the cap is an insignia consisting of a dark grey wool backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 72 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). Directly beneath the eagle, the centre of the front paneling bears a machine-embroidered multi-coloured cockade, measuring 25 mm in diameter. The interior features a brown leather sweatband securely embroidered across the forehead, and is fully encompassed by a multi-piece blue-grey rayon liner. It is unmarked with the exception of a black ink size mark of “57” stamped onto the right. Measuring approximately 275 mm (l) x 120 mm (h) when folded on a flat surface, the cap demonstrates no evident wear or damage and is in an overall extremely fine condition.
