Germany, Luftwaffe. An Officer’s Overseas Cap
(Luftwaffe Schiffchen für Offiziere). A well-preserved Luftwaffe Officer’s overseas cap, constructed of dark grey wool twill. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, trimmed along the edge with a length of silver aluminum wire piping, and reinforced with dual rows of machine embroidery. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a dark grey wool base bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 52 mm (w) x 32 mm (h) overall. Directly underneath the eagle, the panel also bears a machine-embroidered tri-colour cockade measuring 22 mm in diameter. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece slate-grey cotton/rayon blended liner, with the right side bearing an illegible stamped size mark. It measures approximately 290 mm (l) x 115 mm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Moderate soiling reflecting consistent wear is evident, in addition to slight material fatigue to the insignia and wire piping. The cap is in an overall better than very fine condition.
