Germany, Luftwaffe. An Officer’s Overseas Cap
(Luftwaffe Schiffchen für Offiziere). An extremely well-preserved Luftwaffe Officer’s overseas cap, constructed of dark grey wool with a whipcord weave. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side walls which are fully trimmed with a length of silver aluminum wire piping. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a dark grey wool backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 80 mm (w) x 45 mm (h) overall. Directly below the eagle the cap also bears a machine-embroidered tri-colour cockade measuring 23 mm in diameter. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece slate-grey rayon liner. Stamped onto the left side of the crown is a size mark of “56”, while the right side is stamped with a presumed manufacture date of “42”. It measures approximately 28 cm (w) x 13 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating no notable damage or wear, the cap remains in an extremely fine condition.
