Germany, Ordnungspolizei. A Gendarmerie EM/NCO’s Visor Cap, by Robert Lubstein
(Gendarmerie Schirmmütze für Mannschaften/Unterführer). An extremely well-preserved Gendarmerie EM/NCO’s visor cap, constructed of police-green wool. The cap features reinforced side walls, fully lined on the exterior with a dark brown wool cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the cap band are trimmed with orange piping, while an additional band of identical construction trims the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak is a multi-piece cockade constructed of aluminum wire with a red wool centrepiece, measuring 22 mm in diameter. Directly below the cockade, the centre of the cap band is pinned with an aluminum Ordnungspolizei insignia, consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 58 mm (w) x 48 mm (h). The cap band is flanked by pebbled magnetic metal buttons which secure in place a black leatherette chinstrap, itself adjusted with two blackened magnetic metal buckles. The chinstrap rests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor which is finished in a glossed black on the obverse and in brown on the reverse. A brown leatherette sweatband circumscribed the reverse of the sweatband, while a multi-piece brown rayon blended liner fully encompasses the interior. The crown retains an intact transparent plastic moisture guard which bears a maker’s mark of “ROBERT LUBSTEIN, BERLIN”, situated over a black ink size mark of “57”. It measures approximately 25 cm (w) x 26.5 cm (l) x 14.5 cm (h). Minor, age-appropriate material fatigue is visible to the chinstrap, visor, and sweatband, with additional distortion of the side walls, but the cap demonstrates no notable damage and remains in a near extremely fine condition.
