Germany, SS. A Removable Greatcoat Hood, 6th SS Mountain Division Nord, by R. & A. Becker
(Kapuze für SS Wintermantel). A rare and extremely well-preserved, SS-attributed removable greatcoat hood, constructed of heavy field-grey wool. The exterior presents plain and descent into a large cowl, providing neck and shoulder protection for the wearer. The interior demonstrates multi-piece construction, secured together with tight machine stitching. The left side of the interior of the cowl features an integrated stap with two reinforced buttonholes, with one bakelite button on the left and a second on the right side of the cowl, allowing for secure closure. This is additionally reinforced by a magnetic metal hook on the right side of the chin meeting an analogous loop of identical construction on the left. Stamped on onto the reverse of the interior is a black ink Reichsbetriebsnummer of “0/0650/008” for Bekleidungswerke R. & A. Becker GmbH, Saarbrücken. Notably, there is an additional white painted mark on the cowl reading “6. SS. GEB. DIV. NORD” for the 6th SS Mountain Division. The hood measures approximately 375 mm (w) x 490 mm (h) when folded flat. With only minor signs of material fatigue, it is in an overall extremely fine condition.
