Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS EM/NCO’s M40 Overseas Cap

(Waffen-SS Schiffchen M40). A well-preserved Waffen-SS EM/NCO’s M40 overseas cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side walls which are scalloped toward the front. Visible on the peak is the unmistakable outline of an SS-style German national eagle insignia which, having been carefully removed, is lost to time. Directly below the outline, the front of the walls similarly demonstrates the careful removal of an SS-style Totenkopf insignia. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece dark beige rayon liner, which presents plain with the exception of a size mark of “57” stamped onto the right side in black ink. It measures approximately 30 cm (l) x 12 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. With the exception of the missing insignia the cap demonstrates no evident wear or damage, and is in a near extremely fine condition.
