Germany, SS. A Waffen-SS EM/NCO’s M43 Field Cap, Late-War Dachau Example

(Waffen-SS Einheitsfeldmütze M43). An exceptionally well-preserved late-war, Dachau-style Waffen-SS M43 field cap, constructed of field-grey wool twill. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped at the front, which offer optional ear and neck protection for the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place with two pebbled zink buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. The peak retains an insignia consisting of a field-grey wool trapezoid bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey SS-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, above a Totenkopf, in a classic Dachau-style design. Measuring 65 mm (w) x 45 mm (h), the insignia is secured in place with its original factory stitching. The exterior features are completed with a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor, liner on the obverse in field-grey wool, and exposed on the reverse. A complete field-grey herringbone rayon liner encompasses the interior, and is stamped on the crown with a black ink size mark of “57”. The cap is otherwise unmarked and measures approximately 210 mm (w) x 260 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). Minor soiling is evident to the interior, but the cap is otherwise unblemished and presents in a near mint condition.
