(Waffen-SS Schiffchen). A Waffen-SS EM/NCO’s overseas field cap, constructed of field-grey wool twill. It is fully surrounded by gently curved fold-down side panels. Both the peak and front of the panel retain remnants of black stitching where insignia were removed from the cap. The interior is fully encompassed by a grey herringbone rayon twill liner, which bears a black ink maker’s mark of “BERVEN, PADOVA” for Berrettificio Veneto of Padua, above a size mark of “56”. It measures approximately 300 mm (l) x 130 mm (h) when folded flat. In addition to the missing insignia, minor material fatigue is evident to the wool. This Italian-made cap is in an overall very fine condition.
