Germany, Luftwaffe. A Single-Decal Luftwaffe M42 Steel Helmet by Emaillierwerk Fulda
(Luftwaffe M42 Stahlhelm). An extremely well-preserved Luftwaffe M42 steel helmet, constructed of molybdenum steel (magnetic) and retaining its original blue-grey paint. The helmet is flanked on each side by integrated ventilation holes. Underneath the left ventilation hole is an intact decal consisting of a second-pattern Luftwaffe eagle, measuring 70 mm (w) x 38 mm (h). The exterior features are completed by dual frontal rivets, with a single reverse rivet, securing in place the interior liner. The rim of the helmet is fully crimped, facilitating a smooth edge. The interior features a metal band, held in place by the aforementioned exterior riveting, with dual loops bearing a blackened leather chinstrap. The chinstrap features an aluminum buckle and is perforated with 13 holes, allowing for an adjustable fit. The metal band also bears a brown leather liner, stamped at the forehead with an arrangement of ventilation holes. The liner also features nine fingers, each stamped with six holes, with a drawstring looped through the top holes. The interior shell is maker marked “EF64” for Emaillierwerk A.G., Fulda, with a number of “31468”. The helmet measures 235 mm (w) x 275 mm (l) x 140 mm (h). Minor scratching is evident, along with loosening of the rivets and age-appropriate material fatigue to the leather elements. It is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
