Germany, Luftwaffe. An M18 Transitional Luftwaffe Ear Cut Out Helmet
(Luftwaffe M18 Stahlhelm). Constructed of magnetic steel, with repainted period color dark grey on the interior and exterior, featuring a smooth finished edge along the entire helmet. The helmet has a “clamshell” appearance due to the ear cut outs and has three flat headed rivets for retaining the helmet liner and two grommets on either side of the helmet for ventilation purposes. The exterior bears two decals - one of a 2nd pattern Luftwaffe eagle and the other a 1st pattern tricolour decal. The interior partially bears the dark brown leather helmet liner with some of the black woven drawstring and complete brown leather chinstrap which is secured to the helmet liner retaining band. The chinstrap has two steel adjustment buckles and the helmet liner is stamped with a black “55”, the helmet shows signs of wear, measuring 325 mm (front to back of edge) 660 mm (circumference around widest part of exterior dome), rare and fine.
