Germany, Feuerschutzpolizei. A Double Decal Steel Helmet
(Feuerschutzpolizei Stahlhelm). A Feuerschutzpolizei double decal steel helmet, constructed of a black-painted magnetic molybdenum steel shell. The helmet is flanked on each by dual sets of seven ventilation holes, each set above decals. Each measuring 32 mm (w) x 40 mm (h), the right decal features a NSDAP-style German flag consisting of a red shield bearing a white disc with a black mobile swastika, while the left side bears a silvered Ordnungspolizei insignia. Four rivets are evenly distributed around the outer circumference of the shell, securing in place the interior fixtures. Two elongated holes on the crown retained a comb which has since been lost to time, while an additional rivet is missing from the back. The rim is crimped, providing a smooth edge. A brown leather liner fully encompasses the interior and completes in nine fingers, each perforated with ventilation holes and a single top hole for the accommodation of a drawstring. Notably, a series of black leather straps emanate from the rim and secures in place a black leather strap for optional neck protection. The helmet also retains a chinstrap constructed of multiple pieces of blackened leather, adjusted with functional magnetic metal buckles. Stamped onto the liner is a maker’s mark of “ALBERT DIEDR. DOMEYER, BREMEN”, along with a size mark of “56”. An additional partially-legible mark ending in “STAHL” (“STEEL”) is stamped onto the interior of the shell. The helmet measures 225 mm (w) x 285 mm (l) x 140 mm (h). In addition to the missing fixtures, there is moderate oxidation and loss of finish to the shell, along with age-appropriate wear of the leather elements. The helmet is in an overall very fine condition.
