A Luftwaffe Fliegertruppe Officer’s Visor Cap

A fine example of a third reich period Luftwaffe Fliegertruppe Offizier Visor cap, constructed of fine quality manufacture grey-blue Mützen-Trikot (cap tricot) with a fine twill weave (Körperbindung) pattern of parallel running ribs. The cap features a traditional high peak crown with bright golden-yellow piping running along the crown of the cap, as well as the top and bottom edge of the 43 mm wide black interwoven cap bad. The visor is made of Vulkanfiber, and is lacquered black on the obverse, and features a green lacquered finish with a squared pattern on the underside, with black leather trim sewn to the edge of the visor. The chin cord is crafted of twisted bullion cords and are attached to the cap with one glossy metal (magnetic) button on each side of the cap. The insignia on the cap consist of a well-detailed eagle in stamped silver finished aluminum eagle, measuring 64 mm x 40 mm. Attached directly below the eagle is an open-ended wreath in silvered aluminum, with a metal tri-colour cockade consisting of metal black and silver rings with a red painted core, measuring 115 mm x 36 mm. The inside of the cap is lined with pale silky liner, along with a pale leather sweatband that is perforated towards the front. The crown portion of the cap once featured a maker’s diamond, but it has been removed or lost through time. Towards the left on the sweatband is a maker’s mark in silver lettering - it is illegible. The cap measures 275 mm x 243 mm at the crown. Overall, it displays light period wear, with some thinning in the fabric and light to moderate mothing, as well as slightly miss-shaped core from storage. In overall near extremely fine condition.
