A Panzer EM/NCO’s Overseas Side Cap
This is a well preserved Panzer “Feldmütze” constructed of field gray “Feldgrau” wool, with fold-down side and back panels with gently sloping, downward scallops to the front. On both sides of the cap is a single painted rivet to allow for some airflow through the cap. The front of the cap features a machine embroidered Wehrmacht eagle patch in gray threading, with a forest-green embroidered background, and a green core. Directly beneath is a machine embroidered tri-colour cockade in black, white, and red threading, on a forest green backer, topped just above with a pink “rosa” Panzer Waffenfarbe soutache. All insignia appear original to the cap and are machine-stitched into place. The interior of the cap is fully lined in a gray cotton blended fabric, that appears to have turned a grayish-brown in some spots due to sweat staining. It is maker stamped “57” for size, with an additional maker stamp of which only “1912” is legible. The cap measures 275 mm x 100 mm when folded. Overall, the cap is in very fine condition, displaying some signs of wear along with a single 7 mm wide moth-nip on the left side of the cap.
