Germany, Heer. A Panzer EM/NCO’s Overseas Cap, by Willy Sprengpfeil
(Heer Schiffchen für Männer der Panzertruppe). A very well-preserved Heer Panzer EM/NCO’s overseas service cap, constructed of black wool. It is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels with frontal scalloping. The crown is flanked on each side by ventilation holes reinforced with blackened magnetic metal grommets. Stitched onto the peak of the cap is an insignia consisting of a black rayon base bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. The insignia measures 70 mm (w) x 30 mm (h) overall. Underneath the eagle is a machine-embroidered rayon tricolour cockade measuring 38 mm (w) x 35 mm (h), set within a rose-pink rayon soutache. The interior is fully encompassed by an olive-drab rayon liner, stamped on the crown with a black ink maker’s mark of “WILLY SPRENGPFEIL, HAMBURG”, a size of “56”, and a manufacture date of “1938”. It measures approximately 290 mm (l) x 110 mm (h) when folded flat. Minor, age-appropriate material fatigue is evident to the wool, but the cap is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
