Germany, Heer. A Panzer Officer’s M38 Overseas Cap
(Heer Schiffchen). A very well-preserved Heer Panzer Officer’s M38 overseas cap, constructed of heavy black wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, secured in place at the front by machine stitching. Both the front of the panels and the crown of the cap are fully trimmed with silver aluminum wire piping, and the cap is flanked on each side by a ventilation hole reinforced with a blackened magnetic metal eyelet. The exterior features are complete by a frontal machine-embroidered tri-colour cockade, measuring 35 mm (w) x 35 mm (h) and set within a rose-pink soutache. The interior is plain with the exception of a brown leather sweatband at the forehead, as well as a black ink size stamp of “59”. There is evidence of an eagle insignia formerly adorning the peak, which has since been removed, but that cap is otherwise free of evident faults and is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
