Germany, Heer. An Army Panzergrenadier Tropical M41 Field Cap, by Carl Halfar
(Heer Tropen Einheitsfeldmütze). This is an extremely well-preserved Heer (Army) Tropical M41 field cap, constructed of olive-drab cotton twill. The cap features decorative, integrated side panels fully lining the circumference of the crown, securely held in place by a row of machine stitching. The crown is flanked on each side by dual ventilation holes with magnetic metal eyelet reinforcements. The peak bears an insignia in the form of a grey-threaded Wehrmacht-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika on a tan-coloured rayon background. The insignia is secured to the cap by multiple rows of stitching and measures 70 mm (w) x 28 mm (h). Beneath the insignia is a light-green soutache, indicating Panzergrenadier personnel. The soutache surrounds a tri-colour cockade, constructed of multi-coloured machine embroidery on a tan-coloured rayon background and measuring 20 mm in diameter. The cap features a protruding visor with cardboard reinforcement set securely into the structure. The interior is fully lined with red cotton, bearing a manufacturer’s mark of “Carl Halfar, Berlin N20”, along with a size of “56” and a date of “1941”. The cap measures approximately 170 mm (w) x 270 mm (l) x 120 mm (h). Minor material fatigue is evident to the exterior, along with some soiling of the interior liner, but the cap is in an otherwise extremely fine condition.
