Germany, Heer. An EM/NCO’s M42 Overseas Cap, by Kurtze & Storckmann
(Heer Schiffchen). An EM/NCO’s M42 overseas cap, constructed of heavy field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels which are secured in place at the front by dual grey magnetic metal buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. It is also flanked on each side by ventilation holes, both reinforced with zink eyelets. Stitched into the peak of the cap is an insignia in the form of a field-grey rayon backer bearing a machine-embroidered light grey Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 65 mm (w) x 28 mm (h). Underneath the eagle insignia is a tri-colour machine-embroidered cockade, measuring 35 mm (w) x 35 mm (h). The interior of the cap features a complete grey rayon liner. The liner bears a number of black ink marks, including a maker’s mark of “KURTZE & STORCKMANN, BERLIN C”, a size stamp of “55”, a manufacture year of “42”, and an additional date stamp of “B. II. 42”. It measures approximately 290 mm (w) x 138 mm (h) when folded. The cap presents free of evident faults and is in a near mint condition.
