Germany, Heer. An EM/NCO’s M44 Field Cap
(Einheitsfeldmütze M44). A very well-preserved Heer EM/NCO’s M44 field cap, constructed of grey-brown wool twill. It features fold-down side panels, scalloped at the front, offering optional ear and neck protection for the wearer. When not in use, the panels roll up and are secured in place with a single pebbled zink button on the right flap meeting a reinforcement buttonhole set into the left flap. Affixed to the peak with original factory stitching is a classic M44 insignia in the form of a light brown rayon trapezoid bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, above a tricolour cockade. The insignia measures 65 mm (w) x 50 mm (h). Completing the exterior features is a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor, fully lined in identical wool. An olive-drab rayon liner encompasses the interior, which presents plain with the exception of an illegible black ink mark, which is possibly a size stamp. The cap is otherwise unmarked and measures approximately 210 mm (w) x 260 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). Minor soiling is evident to both the exterior wool and the interior liner, but this late war-produced example is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
