Germany, Heer. An M40 EM/NCO’s Tropical Field Cap
(Heer Afrikamütze). A very well-preserved Heer EM/NCO’s tropical field cap, constructed of khaki-coloured cotton twill. The cap is fully surrounded by a decorative side panel, held in place by a row of machine stitching. It is flanked on each side by dual ventilation holes, reinforced with zink eyelets. Stitched into the peak is an insignia in the form of a silver-grey machine-embroidered Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, set on a light-brown background and measuring 64 mm (w) x 26 mm (h). Beneath the eagle is a tri-colour machine-embroidered cockade, set on a light brown diamond, measuring 30 mm (w) x 30 mm (h) overall. The exterior features are completed with a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor. The interior has a khaki-coloured sweatband with an oil cloth base. A complete red cotton interior liner is stamped with a black ink size mark of “56” and a manufacturer code of “0/0843/003”. The cap measures approximately 175 mm (w) x 260 mm (l) x 120 mm (h). Age-appropriate material fatigue is evident throughout, but the cap is free of evident faults and is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
