Germany. A Luftwaffe NCO’s Visor Cap by Robert Lubstein, Dated 1936
Constructed of fine quality Luftwaffe-gray wool, with a traditional high peak crown with even and tightly seated lemon-yellow piping running along the crown of the cap, as well as above and below the cap band. The cap band itself is constructed of black woven strands in a ribbed formation. The insignia of the cap consists of a bullion Luftwaffe eagle, as well as an aluminum one-piece wreath and cockade. The eagle is period original, but is not original to the cap. It is constructed of aluminum, in the form of a standard Luftwaffe eagle, and is attached to the cap slightly off-centre via two prongs visible on the interior of the cap. The cockade is equally constructed of aluminum, and features a standard winged oak wreath design, with an integrated metal tri-colour cockade on the interior. The visor is crafted of vulkanfiber, with a leather trimmed ridge along the brim. It is lacquered with a glossy black finish on both sides, and remains firmly attached to the front of the cap. The chin cord consists of a matching black lacquered leather chin cord, with two sliders for size adjustment, and is attached to both sides of the cap via a black glossy button. The interior of the cap is lined with a pumpkin-coloured liner, and is maker marked underneath a celluloid maker’s diamond with the details of Robert Lubstein of Berlin. It also indicated the date of manufacture being 1936, and size 59 ½. Towards the edge of the cap is also a tan-coloured faux leather sweatband with a perforated front. The sweatband is marked “L/Flak 3 1939 3. Battr” in black ink. It measures 253 mm (w) x 270 mm x 135 mm (h). A worn example, with a replaced Luftwaffe cap eagle (slightly off centre to the right), with light signs of wear and age, such as a slightly soiled cap band and interior fabric with a slightly loose cockade, but overall in better than very fine condition.
