Germany, Heer. A Flak/Artillery EM/NCO’s Visor Cap

(Heer Schirmmütze für Männer der Flak/Artillerie). A well-preserved Heer Flak/Artillery EM/NCO’s visor cap, constructed of field-grey wool. It features reinforced side walls fully lined on the exterior with a smooth dark green wool cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the cap band are trimmed with red piping, while an additional band of identical piping trims the outer edge of the cap band. Pinned onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a silvered zink alloy Wehrmacht eagle measuring 65 mm (w) x 28 mm (h). Directly below the eagle, the centre of the cap band is pinned with a multi-piece silvered zink and aluminum insignia consisting of a tricolour cockade set within an oak leaf wreath, measuring 65 mm (w) x 45 mm (h) overall. The cap is flanked on each side by black-painted magnetic metal rivets securing in place a black leatherette chinstrap, itself adjusted with two functional magnetic metal buckles. When not in use, the chinstrap rests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor, finished inblack on the obverse and in a light brown on the reverse. The interior features a brown leather sweatband fully surrounding the side walls, measuring 40 mm in width and perforated with an array of ventilation holes along the forehead. It is also encompassed by a multi-piece beige rayon liner, with the crown retaining an intact transparent plastic moisture guard. A faint inscription of “SONDERKLASSE” (“SPECIAL CLASS”) remains visible under the guard, and the sweatband is marked with an embossed insignia indicating genuine leather construction. Otherwise unmarked, the cap measures approximately 240 mm (w) x 260 mm (l) x 160 mm (h). Issues consistent with age and field use are evident, and include small, sporadic patches of mothing to the exterior wool of the crown and cap band, moderate loss of silver finish to the insignia, fatigue to the leather and features, and moderate soiling of the interior liner. This experienced cap is in an overall very fine condition.
