Germany, Heer. A Rare Dutch-Made Flak/Artillery EM/NCO’s Overseas Cap
(Heer Schiffchen für Männer der Flak/Artillerie). A rare and well-preserved Heer EM/NCO’s overseas cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side walls which are scalloped toward the front. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a field-grey rayon backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 75 mm (w) x 30 mm (h). Notably, the eagle demonstrates factory-original zig-zag stitching. Directly below the eagle, the centre of the walls bears a machine-embroidered tri-colour cockade set onto a field-grey rayon backer, measuring 38 mm (w) x 38 mm (h). The cockade is surrounded by a red soutache which is securely stitched through the walls. A multi-piece grey cotton liner fully encompasses the interior, and bears an illegible black ink mark stamped onto the crown. The cap is otherwise unmarked but demonstrates the characteristics of wartime Dutch-manufactured examples distributed to the Wehrmacht. It measures approximately 285 mm (w) x 120 mm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Several small patches of mothing are evident to the exterior wool, but the cap remains in a near extremely fine condition.
