What's a max bid?

Your maximum bid should be the highest amount you're willing to pay for an item.

Your entered maximum bid will not be disclosed to the seller or other auction participants at any point.

Max bidding example:

If the current auction price is $100 dollars and you place a maximum bid of $120 dollars, the system will bid $101 dollars on your behalf.

If no other participant places a bid, you win that auction lot for $101 dollars.

If another auction participant places a bid of $110 dollars, the system will subsequently place a bid of $111 dollars on your behalf. The system will continue to bid in $1.00 dollar increments until your maximum bid of $120 dollars is exceeded.

If another auction participant places a bid for $125 dollars, the auction lot price will display $121 dollars having exceeded your previously submitted maximum bid by $1.00 dollar.

Germany, Heer. An Administrative Gebirgsjäger Officer’s Visor Cap

(Heer Schirmmütze für Beamter der Gebirgsjäger). A well-preserved Heer Administrative Gebirgsjäger Officer’s visor cap, constructed of field-grey wool twill. The cap features reinforced side walls, fully lined on the exterior with a smooth dark green wool cap band. The cap band is trimmed along both the top and bottom edges with dark green piping, while an additional band of identical piping fully trims the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak of the cap is a silvered zink insignia consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika. Measuring 60 mm (w) x 30 mm (h), the eagle retains both of its reverse attachment prongs. Directly underneath the eagle, the cap is pinned with a multi-piece silvered and gilded edelweiss, measuring 30 mm (w) x 30 mm (h). The centre of the cap band also features an additional insignia consisting of a non-magnetic metal tri-colour cockade with a red wool centrepiece, set within a silvered zink alloy oak leaf wreath, measuring 68 mm (w) x 42 mm (h). The cap band is flanked by pebbled magnetic metal rivets securing in place a decorative chinstrap constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire, adjusted with dual sliding knots. The chinstrap rests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor, finished in a matte black on the obverse and in a light brown on the reverse. A brown leather sweatband lines the inner edge of the side walls, while the interior is also fully encompassed by a beige rayon-blended liner. The crown of the liner retains a mostly intact transparent plastic moisture guard, which displays faint remnants of an illegible silvered maker’s mark. The cap measures 240 mm (w) x 255 mm (l) x 175 mm (h). Some issues consistent with age and field use are evident, and include small patches of fatigue and mothing to the outer wool and sweatband, in addition to loss of finish to the insignia. The cap is in an overall very fine condition.
