Germany, Heer. An Armoured Officer’s Visor Cap
(Heer Schirmmütze für Offizier der Panzertruppe). An extremely well-preserved Heer Armoured Officer’s visor cap, constructed of field-grey wool. It features reinforced side walls, fully lined on the exterior with a dark green wool cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the bands are trimmed with lengths of rose-pink piping, while an additional band of identical piping trims the outer edge of the crown. The peak of the cap demonstrates the unmistakable outline of a Wehrmacht eagle insignia which has since been lost to time (with no consequent damage to the wool base). Directly beneath the outline, the centre of the cap band is pinned with an additional multi-piece insignia consisting of an aluminum oak leaf wreath surrounding a tri-colour cockade, measuring 70 mm (w) x 48 mm (h) overall. The cap band is flanked by pebbled aluminum buttons securing in place a chinstrap constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire piping, adjusted with dual sliding knots. It rests upon a protruding vulcanfibre visor, finished in a glossed black on the obverse and in a dark brown on the reverse. The interior of the side walls is lined with a dark brown leather sweatband, while the body is fully encompassed by a multi-piece light and dark brown rayon liner. An intact transparent celluloid moisture guard is stitched onto the crown. Unmarked, the cap measures approximately 23.5 cm (w) x 23 cm (l) x 16 cm (h). Minor material fatigue is visible to the exterior wool in addition to the missing insignia, but the cap remains in an overall near extremely fine condition.
