Germany, HJ. A Winter Service Cap
(HJ Wintermütze). A well-preserved HJ winter service cap, constructed of black wool. The cap is surrounded by a fold-down side panel, scalloped at the front, offering optional ear and neck protection for the wearer. When not in use, the panel is rolled up, with the front pinned with a decorative blackened and pebbled zink button. Pinned onto the peak of the cap is a badge consisting of a HJ diamond insignia constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels. Measuring 15 mm (w) x 25 mm (h), the badge is marked on the reverse with a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logo and code “M1/34” for Karl Wurster, Markneukirchen. The exterior features are completed with a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor, fully lined in black wool and trimmed along the edge with black leather. The interior is fully encompassed by a padded grey cotton-blended liner. It is unmarked and measures approximately 190 mm (w) x 230 mm (l) x 120 mm (h). Minor material fatigue is evident, with two small patches of mothing also visible to the visor. The cap is in an overall better than very fine condition.
