Germany, HJ. A Winter Service Cap
(HJ Wintermütze). An extremely well-preserved HJ winter service cap, constructed of thick dark navy blue wool. It is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped at the front, offering optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place at the front with a silvered bronze buckle and sliding wool knot. The former is marked on the reverse with a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) number and maker code “M5/185” for Tweer & Turck, Lüdenscheid. Pinned onto the peak of the cap is an enameled HJ badge, marked on the reverse with a RZM logo and maker code “M1/52” for Deschler & Sohn, Munich. The insignia measures 15 mm (w) x 25 mm (h). Completing the exterior features is a protruding cardboard-reinforced visor, fully lined in identical wool. A padded, panelled, black rayon liner fully encompasses the interior. Stitched onto the right side of the liner is a fully-intact RZM label bearing a secondary code of “322467”. The cap measures approximately 190 mm (w) x 260 mm (l) x 120 mm (h). With only slight fading of the exterior wool evident, it is in an extremely fine condition.
