Germany, Luftwaffe. A Flight Personnel NCO’s Visor Cap
(Luftwaffe Schirmmütze). A very well-preserved Luftwaffe Flight Personnel NCO’s visor cap, constructed of dark grey wool with a black rayon-blended cap band. The cap bears a band of golden-yellow piping around the crown, with additional bands of identical piping at the top and bottom of the cap band. Pinned into the peak of the cap is an insignia in the form of an aluminum Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 52 mm (w) x 38 mm (h) and retaining one of its two original reverse attachment prongs. Pinned into the cap band underneath the eagle is a cockade and wreath, similarly constructed of aluminum, and measuring 130 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). The cap is flanked on each side by black magnetic metal rivets, securing in place a black leather chinstrap, adjusted with functional dual magnetic metal buckles. When not in use, the chinstrap wrests upon the protruding black vulcanfibre visor. The interior features a brown leather visor measuring 46 mm in width, as well as a light brown oilcloth liner. Stitched into the crown is a transparent moisture guard, covering a gilt maker’s mark for a Berlin-based outlet of an apparel-making collective, along with a black ink size stamp of “56 ½”. The cap measures approximately 248 mm (w) x 260 mm (l) x 155 mm (h). Minor material fatigue is evident, but the cap is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
