Germany, Luftwaffe. A Rare 1st Fallschirm-Panzer Division Hermann Göring EM/NCO’s M43 Field Cap
(Luftwaffe Einheitsfeldmütze M43 für Männer der Fallschirm-Panzer-Division 1. Hermann Göring). A rare and extremely well-preserved 1st Fallschirm-Panzer Division Hermann Göring EM/NCO’s M43 field cap, constructed of black wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, scalloped toward the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels are rolled up and secured in place at the front with a single black bakelite button which emanates from the right flap and meets a reinforced buttonhole set into the left side. The peak retains an insignia consisting of a black wool backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika. Measuring 78 mm (w) x 42 mm (h), the eagle is secured in place with factory-original zig-zag stitching. Directly below the eagle, the cap also retains a tri-colour cockade measuring 22 mm in diameter. A protruding visor completes the exterior features, and consists of a sturdy card stock core fully lined in identical wool. The interior is encompassed by a multi-piece grey cotton/rayon-blended liner. Stamped onto the crown is a black ink size mark of “56”, a partially-legible Reichsbetriebsnummer (RBNr.), and a manufacture date of “1944”. It measures approximately 18 cm (w) x 26.5 cm (l) x 14 cm (h). Both the interior and exterior wool demonstrating minor soiling consistent with field use, but the cap shows no notable damage or rare and is a scarce example in extremely fine condition.
