Germany, Luftwaffe. An EM/NCO’s Overseas Field Cap
(Luftwaffe Schiffchen). An EM/NCO’s overseas field cap, constructed of dark grey wool twill. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, and adorned along the crown with a band of dark blue threaded piping. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia in the form of a dark grey wool backer bearing a silver-grey machine-embroidered Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, measuring 75 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). Underneath the eagle is a machine-embroidered tricolour cockade, measuring 24 mm in diameter. The interior features a rayon-blended dark grey liner, plain with the exception of a stamped letter “E” in black ink. Unmarked, the cap measures approximately 280 mm (l) x 125 mm (h) when folded. While very well-preserved, a small patches of mothing are evident to the front left of the panelling, as well reverse right of the edge of the panelling. The cap is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
