Germany, Luftwaffe. An Officer’s Overseas Cap
(Luftwaffe Fliegermütze). An extremely well-preserved Luftwaffe Officer’s overseas cap, constructed of dark grey wool twill. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side paneling, trimmed along the upper edge by a band of silver aluminum wire piping. Stitched onto the peak of the cap is an insignia in the form of a dark grey wool backer bearing a hand-embroidered Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika. The eagle insignia measures 70 mm (h) x 40 mm (h). Directly underneath the eagle is a machine-embroidered tricolour cockade measuring 22 mm in diameter. The interior presents plain with the exception of a dark grey cotton liner. It measures approximately 270 mm (l) x 120 mm (h). Some material fatigue is evident to the exterior wool, including two small holes near the right crown, along with moderate soiling of the interior liner. The cap is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
