Germany, Luftwaffe. An Officer’s Overseas Cap
(Luftwaffe Schiffchen). A Luftwaffe Officer’s converted overseas field cap, constructed of dark grey wool twill. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels, trimmed along the edge with a band of silver aluminum wire piping, indicating a later Officer’s conversation. Stitched onto the peak of the cap is an insignia consisting of a dark grey wool backer bearing a machine-embroidered silver-grey Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika. The eagle insignia measures 72 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). Underneath the eagle, the cap also features an insignia in the form of a machine-embroidered tricolour cockade, measuring 21 mm in overall diameter. A black rayon liner fully encompasses the interior and presents plain. The cap measures approximately 270 mm (l) x 115 mm (h) when folded flat. Issues consistent with age and field-use are evident, and include some material fatigue to the wool, which includes two small holes, as well as minor soiling. The cap is in an overall very fine condition.
