Germany, NSKK. An Scharführer’s Overseas Cap
(Schiffchen für Scharführer der Nationalsozialistisches Kraftfahrkorps). A well-preserved NSKK Scharführer’s overseas cap, constructed of black wool. It is fully surrounded by decorative fold-down side panels, scalloped towards the front, which are secured in place with a single piece of machine stitching at each side. Stitched onto the front are two matching aluminum buttons, each bearing raised NSKK insignia, and marked on the reverse with Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logos and maker codes of “M5/82” for Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid. Pinned onto the left of the panels is a single aluminum pip, according with the applicable uniform rank insignia of a Scharführer. Completing the exterior features is an insignia affixed near the left of the crown consisting of an orange rayon triangle, overlaid by a machine-embroidered silver aluminum wire NSKK insignia, indicating personnel from Motor Brigade Südwest. A complete black rayon-blended liner fully encompasses the interior, and retains a partially intact RZM label. The cap measures approximately 280 mm (l) x 125 mm (h) when folded flat. Minor material fatigue is evident, and includes a small hole to the left of the panels near the front buttons. The cap is in an overall better than very fine condition.
