Germany, RAD. A National Labour Service Leader’s M43 Style Field Cap, by August Schaltenberg
(Reichsarbeitsdienst Leiter M43 Feldmütze). Constructed of brown wool with fold-down scalloped side panels, secured at the front by a single pebbled silver magnetic button. The cap features thick silver aluminum bullion piping along the crown in a thatched design. At the front of the cap is a metal RAD insignia, consisting of a white pointed spade with red bordering, and a back swastika in the center, with outward facing wheat stalks at a 45 degree angle, in addition, the cap also features a cardboard-reinforced visor at the front. The interior is lined in a light brown silky material, with a non-perforated brown leatherette sweatband around the entire cap. The sweatband is marked “August Schaltenberg” along with other illegible markings. It measures 200 mm (w) x 255 mm (h). The cap is well preserved with the exterior wool being in extremely fine condition. The interior headband is also fully intact. In virtually mint condition.
