Germany, RAD. A Reich Labour Service Officer’s M43 Field Cap

(Reichsarbeitsdienst Einheitsfeldmütze). An extremely well-preserved Reich Labour Service (RAD) EM/NCO’s M43 field cap, constructed of olive-drab wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side paneling, providing ear and neck protection for the wearer. Each panel flap bears an integrated cotton strap on the reverse. When not in use, the panels are secured in place at the front by dual magnetic metal buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. The crown is flanked on each side by a ventilation hole, both reinforced with brown magnetic metal eyelets. The peak features a RAD insignia in the form of a silver aluminum wire and red threaded shovel head, within dual wheat stalks, measuring 52 mm (w) x 38 mm (h). A protruding cardboard-reinforced visor completes the exterior features. The interior features a partial brown leather sweatband, located at the forehead, stamped with an illegible maker’s mark. An olive-drab rayon liner fully encompasses the interior. The cap measures approximately 195 mm (w) x 255 mm (l) x 120 mm (h). Age-appropriate material fatigue is evident to the sweatband, but the cap is in an overall extremely fine condition.
