Germany, Reichsbahn. A Named Bahnhofsvorsteher/Fahrdienstleiter Visor Cap, by Hans Eichmüller
(Reichsbahn Schirmmütze). A very well-preserved Reichsbahn Bahnhofsvorsteher/Fahrdienstleiter visor cap, constructed of dark blue wool. The cap features bands of red piping fully surrounding the crown, as well as the top and bottom of the cap band. Pinned into the peak is an insignia in the form of a gilded zink Reichsbahn-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 38 mm (w) x 28 mm (h). Pinned into the centre of the cap band is a tri-colour cockade constructed of gilded and blued bronze with a red felt centrepiece, measuring 22 mm in diameter. The exterior features complete with a protruding vulcanfibre visor, lacquered black on the obverse. The interior retains a brown leather sweatband measuring 35 mm in width. The interior walls are lined with a light brown cotton, while the crown liner is composed of brown oil cloth. Stitched into the crown is a transparent diamond moisture guard, into which is inserted a maker’s label reading “HANS EICHMÜLLER, SULZBACH”. A handwritten owner’s name of “FRITZ PILHOFER” also appears on the label. The cap measures approximately 235 mm (w) x 265 mm (l) x 145 mm (h). Minor, age-appropriate issue are evident, including some loss of finish to the visor, material fatigue of the wool and leather sweatband, and interior soiling. The cap is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
