Germany, SA. A Garrison Cap for SA Group Niederrhein
(Sturmabteilung Schiffchen der SA-Gruppe Niederrhein). An extremely well-preserved Sturmabteilung (SA) garrison cap, constructed of olive-drab wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels which are scalloped toward the front. The crown is flanked on each side by ventilation holes reinforced with brown-painted magnetic metal grommets. Pinned onto the lower peak is a polished and coppered bronze button. Stitched onto the left side of the walls is an insignia consisting of a black rayon triangle bearing a machine-embroidered silver aluminum wire SA-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 62 mm (w) x 40 mm (h) overall. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece olive-drab rayon liner, stamped on the right with a size mark of “58”, as well as a unit code for “NR.” indicating, along with the black exterior insignia, issue to SA Group Niederrhein (Lower Rhine). A rectangular void outlined in machine threading indicates that the cap formerly displayed an additional label which has been lost to time. It measures approximately 30 cm (l) x 11.5 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating only minor material fatigue, it is in an overall extremely fine condition.
