Germany, SS. A Rare Waffen-SS Cloth-Billed Crusher Visor Cap
(Waffen-SS Schirmmütze). A rare and well-preserved Waffen-SS crusher visor cap, constructed of field-grey whipcord wool. The cap features reinforced side walls, lined on the exterior with a black wool cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the cap band are trimmed with bands of white wool piping, while an additional band of identical piping trims the outer edge of the crown. The peak bears the unmistakable outline of a metal SS-style German national eagle insignia, which has since been lost to time. Directly below the imprint, the centre of the cap band similarly demonstrates the outline of a Totenkopf insignia.Completing the exterior features is a scarce cloth-billed protruding visor, consisting of a patent-leather core fully lined by identical field-grey wool. The interior features a brown leather sweatband which surrounds the side walls, and is fully encompassed by a multi-piece light brown cotton liner. A size mark of “56” is stamped onto the crown in black ink, but the cap is otherwise unmarked. It measures approximately 23 cm (w) x 25 cm (l) x 16 cm (h).
